On August 10, 2019, Siaya County Commissioner Michael Ole Tialal ordered a re-examination of the case, citing shoddy investigations and the possibility of bribery to protect the culprits.
At a county education stakeholders' meeting, Rang'ala Girls principal Susan Owino expressed frustration over the slow pace of justice at Ugunja Police Station, despite evidence and witnesses being made available.
According to Owino, the administration's investigations revealed that the arsonists, including three other witnesses, had confessed to their plans and execution of the incident.
However, despite handing over the student to Nyambachi with concrete evidence and witnesses, prosecutions had not been made more than a month after.
Siaya County DCI boss downplayed the matter, stating that the version of arsonists making confession was never recorded in the file, but added that the issue is being revisited.
Commissioner Ole Tialal intervened, ordering the county police commander Kooli to revisit the case and ensure that justice is prevailed.
