On August 9, 2019, the DCI's Child Protection Unit announced that they had commenced investigations into allegations made by Wendy Waeni against her former manager Joe Mwangi.

According to the DCI's Twitter account, any criminal culpability found in the matter will be subject to the appropriate legal action.

"Detectives from the Child Protection Unit have today commenced investigations into this matter & should ANY criminal culpability be found, appropriate legal action will be taken. We are grateful to all those who brought this to our attention." — DCI KENYA (@DCI_Kenya) August 9, 2019

Wendy Waeni had previously made the allegations in a TV interview with Jeff Koinange, where she claimed that she was being taken advantage of by her former manager.
