North Korea has fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan, its fifth such launch in recent weeks, sparking concerns of a breach of UN security council resolutions.
According to South Korea's military, the missiles were launched from near the eastern city of Hamhung in South Hamgyong Province on Friday, July 26, 2019, at 5:34 and 5:50 GMT, flying a distance of around 400 km (250 miles) at an altitude of about 48 km with a maximum speed of more than Mach 6.1.
The launches come after US President Donald Trump said he had received a "very beautiful letter" from North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who expressed anger over the US-South Korean military drills, stating that they violate agreements reached with Mr Trump and South Korea's President Moon Jae-in.
North Korea has fired a series of missiles and rockets since Mr Trump and Mr Kim agreed during a meeting in June to restart denuclearisation negotiations.
