Kenya's top scrabble players are gearing up for the ninth National Scrabble Circuit, which kicks off today at Pride Hotel in Bondo. The event, which will feature over 80 national scrabble masters, is expected to be a closely contested affair, with several top players vying for the top spot.
Nderitu Gitonga, the current national scrabble seed one, is looking to claim his sixth national circuit win. However, he will face stiff competition from his long-time rival and former East Africa number one, Allan Oyende.
According to Scrabble Kenya chairman Bernard Amuke, the circuit will be played over three divisions and will serve as the final qualification competition for the Pan African Scrabble Championship and the Water and Sewerage Companies scrabble championship games.
“Scrabble Kenya will use this circuit to select 25 players to represent Kenya in the Panasa games. We will also be having youth games and so it will be a leg in Bondo,” Amuke said.
Gitonga won the Meru National Scrabble Circuit in May, but will need to perform well in Bondo to maintain his position as the top-ranked player in the country.
