On August 9, 2019, Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia FC announced the appointment of midfielder Kenneth Muguna as the club's new captain, with defender Joash Onyango as his deputy.
Muguna takes over from Harun Shakava, who left the KPL champions to join Nkana FC of Zambia after five years at the club.
The assistant captain role was also vacant after Jacques Tuyisenge departed at the close of last season and moved to Petro Atletico of Angola.
Muguna joined Gor from Western Stima in 2017, the same year he was named the KPL most Valuable Player (MVP), and left to join FK Tirana in January 2018 before returning to the club later that year.
Gor are beginning a new era following the departure of key players who formed the backbone of the club's unprecedented success in the past three years, in which they won three consecutive titles.
They also reached the CAF Champions League quarter-finals for the first time ever under Hassan Oktay, who has been replaced by Steven Pollack after he resigned on Tuesday.
