The Ministry of Education in Kenya has made a significant adjustment to the academic calendar, pushing back the opening dates for all schools in the country for term three.
According to a circular issued to all Regional Directors of Education, schools were initially scheduled to open on August 26, but will now open on September 2 and close on October 25, 2019.
The decision was made to coincide with the census dates scheduled for August 24 and 25, 2019, in order to minimize population movements and ensure a successful census.
As stated in the circular, the National Bureau of Statistics emphasized the importance of having 'minimum movements of the population so that they may get as many people as possible in conventional households.'
With this change, students will have an extra week to prepare for the new term, and parents will have more time to make necessary arrangements.
