The Ministry of Education in Kenya has made a significant adjustment to the academic calendar, pushing back the opening dates for all schools in the country for term three.
Originally scheduled to open on August 26, schools will now begin on September 2 and close on October 25, 2019, as announced in a circular to all Regional Directors of Education.
The decision was made to accommodate the upcoming census, which is scheduled to take place on August 24 and 25, 2019. The National Bureau of Statistics emphasized the importance of minimizing population movements during the census to ensure accurate results.
According to the circular, the National Bureau of Statistics stated, "For the forthcoming census to be successful, it is the desire of the National Bureau of Statistics that there be minimum movements of the population so that they may get as many people as possible in conventional households."
As a result of this postponement, students will have an additional week at home before returning to school.
