On August 9, 2019, the Kenyan government announced that it would be postponing the opening of schools for the third term to accommodate a national census.
The census is scheduled to take place from August 24 to September 2, and the government wants to minimize population movement during this time to ensure its success.
Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang directed all county directors of education to update schools and colleges on the change in opening date, which is now set for Monday, September 2.
Learning institutions will have to adjust their schedules to accommodate the change, which may affect their third-term activities, including the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) exams.
The KCPE exams are scheduled to take place between October 29 and 31, while the KCSE exams will take place between October 21 and November 27.
