On August 9, 2019, Sportpesa announced the cancellation of all its sports sponsorships in Kenya, a move attributed to the company's prolonged closure due to a tax dispute with the government.
The betting firm, which had been out of business for over a month, stated that its efforts to resume operations had been hindered by the deliberate non-renewal of its trade licenses.
As a result, Sportpesa employees have been sent on leave, with the possibility of retrenchment looming.
According to Sportpesa, the company will resume its sports sponsorships once it is able to resume business.
