On August 9, 2019, Raila Odinga, Africa's High Representative for Infrastructure, was spotted in China alongside former Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete, a prominent figure in East African politics.

The Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, an Infrastructure International Conference, brought together heads of state from over 150 countries and African leaders to explore partnership opportunities and mutual interests.

During the summit, President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Xi Jinping signed a trade deal that will see Kenya export avocados to China, with the Chinese market projected to absorb over 40% of Kenya's avocado produce at its peak.

Odinga, who also attended the summit, is expected to lobby for Kenya's infrastructure needs and gather knowledge on how to enhance the country's roads and rail connections.
