On August 9, 2019, the Ministry of Education announced a one-week postponement of the opening dates for all schools in Kenya for term three.
According to a circular issued by PS Belio Kipsang to all Regional Directors of Education, schools that were earlier scheduled to open on August 26, 2019, will now open on September 2, 2019, and close on October 25, 2019.
The decision was made to avoid coinciding with the census dates scheduled for August 24 and 25, 2019, as stated in the circular.
"For the forthcoming census to be successful, it is the desire of the National Bureau of Statistics that there be minimum movements of the population so that they may get as many people as possible in conventional households," the circular read.
