On August 9, 2019, a Brazilian judge dismissed the rape case against footballer Neymar, citing insufficient evidence.

The decision was made on the recommendation of prosecutors, who had argued that the plaintiff, Brazilian model Najila Trindade, had provided no conclusive evidence of rape against the Paris Saint-Germain player.

Prosecutor Flavia Merlini stated, "What happened between four walls is impossible to know, we have her word against his. We have decided to ask for the closure of the case."

However, Merlini emphasized that the dismissal of the case was not equivalent to an acquittal for Neymar, and that the case could be reopened at any time should new evidence emerge.

Neymar, 27, had vehemently denied allegations that he raped Trindade in a Paris hotel in May.
