On Thursday evening, a 65-year-old man from Kwa Mwaura village in Laikipia East Sub-county took his own life, allegedly after being diagnosed with cancer.
According to Laikipia county police boss Maxwell Nyaema, the deceased left behind a suicide note indicating that he acted alone and should not be blamed for his demise.
The note, found in the man's house, approximately 200 meters from Kalalu shopping centre, stated that his wife, Teresia Kabariti Nyokabi, should not be questioned about his death.
Police officers, who were informed by the deceased's nephew Charles Maina, found the man hanging from the roof of his house.
Laikipia is not the only region grappling with the devastating effects of cancer, as the disease continues to claim lives across the country, including those of former Bomet governor Joyce Laboso and former Kibra MP Ken Okoth.
As the nation mourns the loss of yet another life to cancer, calls have been made for the government to declare the disease a national disaster and provide adequate medical attention.
