On August 9, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta extended an invitation to the Barbadian business community to invest in Kenya, highlighting the country's favorable business climate.
Speaking in Bridgetown, Barbados, during a business forum, President Kenyatta emphasized that Kenya has created an enabling environment for both foreign and local businesses to thrive.
He noted that the Kenyan government has implemented measures such as protection of investment legislation and other instruments to facilitate a conducive business environment.
“Kenya is an entry point into the African market, and if your businesses come to Kenya, they will get access to an African population of 1.2 billion,” President Kenyatta assured the Barbadian business community.
He added that Kenya is a member of the East African Community, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and has ratified the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA).
President Kenyatta highlighted various sectors, including tourism, mobile money, renewable energy, blue economy, and affordable housing, as emerging areas that present lucrative opportunities for foreign investment.
He also emphasized the importance of partnering with the private sector to translate political will into prosperity for Kenya and Barbados.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley echoed President Kenyatta's sentiments, emphasizing the need for private sector investment in the two countries and encouraging small and medium-sized enterprises to participate.
