Kenyan authorities have issued an international arrest warrant for billionaire Humphrey Kariuki, who is believed to be hiding in Mozambique.
According to a statement by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kinoti, Kariuki is wanted for evading taxes worth over Sh41 billion through his businesses Africa Spirits and Wines of the World.
DCI Kinoti has applied for an international warrant of arrest through Interpol, which would allow authorities to arrest and detain Kariuki anywhere in the world, including at airports.
‘I am applying for an international warrant of arrest for Humphrey Kariuki through Interpol for him to be arrested and detained anywhere in the world including all airports,’ DCI Kinoti said.
Police were last evening looking for Kariuki after the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr Noordin Haji, ordered his immediate arrest alongside eight others on claims of tax evasion amounting to more than Sh41 billion by Africa Spirits and Wow Beverages in Thika.
He is accused alongside Wow Beverages directors Stuart Gerald Herd and Robert Thinji Muriithi, and Africa Spirits Directors Peter Njenga Kuria and Geoffrey Kaaria Kinoti Mbombua.
The items were confiscated from the factory in February during a raid by a multi-agency team.
