On August 8, Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku ruled that Alex Olaba and Frank Wanyama, two rugby players from Kenya Harlequins, had raped a woman named 'W.A' on February 10, 2018, at an apartment in Highrise, Nairobi County.
The rape allegations emerged on March 31, 2018, after the woman accused the players of taking advantage of her after she agreed to go to one of their houses. The victim alleges that she went to the hospital the next morning but did not report the incident to the police until a test confirmed she was pregnant.
According to the police, the players claimed that 'W.A' started sending them text messages demanding money when she realized she was pregnant. They maintained that the sexual contact was consensual and that they knew the accuser and were together on the day she claimed she was sexually assaulted.
The sentencing of the two players has been pushed to Friday, August 16, next week.
