On Thursday, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti announced plans to launch an international search for a Kenyan billionaire, Humphrey Kariuki, wanted over tax evasion.
According to Kinoti, he will be seeking an international warrant of arrest through Interpol, with the aim of having Kariuki arrested and detained anywhere in the world, including all airports.
As reported by Kinoti, "I am applying for an international warrant of arrest for Kariuki, through Interpol, for him to be arrested and detained anywhere in the world including all airports."
Kariuki, a dual citizen of Kenya and Cyprus, is accused of evading taxes worth Ksh41 billion through his businesses, Africa Spirits, and Wines of the World.
The move comes after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered for Kariuki's arrest, along with eight others involved in the tax evasion.
On Thursday, Haji declared that he had enough evidence to charge the persons, stating, "Therefore applying the provisions of the national prosecution policy and having independently reviewed the file, I’m satisfied that there is enough evidence and it is in the interest of the public to charge the following suspects."
Others to be prosecuted together with Kariuki are Stuart Gerald Herd, Perter Njenga Kuria, and Robert Thinji Muriithi Geoffrey Kaaria Kinoti Mbombua.
