A 65-year-old man from Laikipia East Sub-county has become the second person in recent days to take their own life after being diagnosed with cancer.
According to Laikipia County Police Commander Maxwell Nyaema, the man hanged himself in his house on Thursday evening, leaving behind a suicide note.
The note, which was found about 200 meters from Kalalu trading center, stated that the man had acted alone and that his wife, Teresia Kabariti Nyokabi, should not be questioned.
Mr. Nyaema said that the man's nephew, Charles Maina, reported the incident to police, who then proceeded to the scene and found the body dangling from a rope inside the house.
The police boss added that it was not immediately established what type of cancer the man was suffering from or its stage.
The body was moved to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
This incident comes just days after a 40-year-old woman from Naivasha committed suicide after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
