Published on August 9, 2019, Rugby Africa announced the new 2019/2020 format for the Rugby Africa Cup, where 16 nations will compete for the overall title.
The tournament will take place in three phases: a knockout round, a group round, and a final round. The knockout round will take place on November 23, 30, and December 1, 2019.
On November 23, Côte d'Ivoire will face Rwanda in Côte d'Ivoire, while Ghana will face Botswana in Ghana. On November 30, Senegal will face Mauritius in Senegal, and on December 1, Madagascar will face Nigeria in Madagascar.
The group round will kick off six months later on May 30 to July 4, 2020. The twelve teams have been divided into four groups: Group A, Group B, Group C, and Group D.
Group B consists of Kenya, Morocco, and the winner of the match between Côte d'Ivoire and Rwanda. On May 30, the Simbas will host Morocco in the first Group B match, followed by the second Group B match in Morocco, where the hosts will welcome either Côte d'Ivoire or Rwanda.
The final round will be held on July 29 and August 1 in a single venue yet to be confirmed. The Group A winner will face the Group D winner in the first semi-final, followed by the Group B winner taking on the Group C winner in the second semi-final.
The Bronze and final matches will take place on August 1.
