On a Friday in August 2019, I had the pleasure of visiting Blue Door, a bar located in the heart of Nairobi's Westlands, at Kenrail Towers. Despite the chaos that surrounds the area, Blue Door is a gem worth discovering.
The moment you step inside, you're greeted by a massive, ocean-liner-inspired interior, complete with steel windows, high ceilings, and a layout that seems to go on forever. The decor is sleek and modern, with a touch of industrial chic.
One of the standout features of Blue Door is its Beer Garden, where a live band performs on Fridays. The setup is simple yet effective, with classroom-like benches and tables surrounding a large television screen and smaller ones. It's the perfect spot to grab a cold beer and enjoy some live music.
Further inside, you'll find another bar area that's equally impressive. This one's a bit more sophisticated, with a lounge area and a staircase that leads to a VIP section with leather-seated seating. The VIP area offers a great view of the bar and dance floor below.
The service at Blue Door is top-notch, with friendly and attentive wait staff dressed in cool denim dungarees and newsboy hats. The food is also a highlight, with delicious sliders that are sure to satisfy your cravings.
Blue Door is owned by the Good Earth Group, which also operates the popular Nyama Mama restaurant. The bar's atmosphere is lively and energetic, with a crowd that's not too young or too old. The chefs in the open kitchen are a sight to behold, dressed in their Wakanda-inspired uniforms.
