Published on August 9, 2019, the ATP Player Council has seen significant changes in recent months, with the latest being the election of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to the council.
The news comes after the resignations of Robin Haase, Jamie Murray, and Sergiy Stakhovsky, who stepped down following a seven-hour meeting to discuss various issues, including the replacement for former player representative Justin Gimelstob.
According to the ATP, Federer and Nadal will begin their roles immediately and will serve until the end of the existing term, which runs through to Wimbledon 2020.
The coaching representative slot vacated by Daniel Vallverdu in July remains unfilled, and the council is also dealing with issues such as the distribution of prize money.
Friction has been present in the ATP Player Council this year, particularly since ATP president Chris Kermode failed to gain support for another term.
Justin Gimelstob, who sided against Kermode, resigned in May after coming under pressure to do so following a plea of no contest to an assault charge.
As a former president of the Player Council, Swiss Federer is a 20-time Grand Slam champion, while Spaniard Nadal, who has won 18 majors, quit his vice-president role in 2012.
The player council, which represents the players in the ATP's joint governance structure, consists of 12 members, including six members of the world top 100 in men's singles.
