On August 8, 2019, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior offered free legal services to 14-year-old gymnast Wendy Waeni, who accused her former manager Joe Mwangi of exploiting her.
Waeni, who has performed globally, including in Germany, Rwanda, and China, claimed that Mwangi did not share the money generated from her talent.
She and her mother have been living in a single room in Huruma, with her mother selling sweets and cigarettes to make ends meet.
Waeni started gymnastics at the age of four in Huruma estate, where her current group used to practice in an open field.
Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior shared a picture of himself with Waeni, taken by Mwangi in his office, and tweeted that the statement by Wendy on JKL was a criminal complaint.
Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja prompted Mutula to represent Waeni, and he agreed.
Waeni appeared on the Jeff Koinange Live show on Wednesday, revealing that she had not received any payment for her performances.
She said, 'I have been performing all over the world Jeff, I have performed in Germany, Rwanda, China but right now I live in Huruma in a single room, and I have not got even a single penny. My Mum is really suffering right now, I know she is working right now she sells sweets.'
