Kenya is set to host the 2023 World Dairy Summit, bringing together 600 delegates from 45 countries to discuss the dairy industry's global challenges.
According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, the country produces approximately 5.2 billion liters of milk annually.
Despite this, the dairy sub-sector faces constraints including poor milk handling by small holder farmers, milk adulteration, and aflatoxin-infested animal feeds.
However, Githunguri Dairy Assistant General Manager Fredrick Mureithi attributes the growth of the dairy industry to an increase in the number of milk processors, devolution, and the adoption of new technologies.
He emphasizes the importance of capitalizing on global technological trends to further grow the industry.
