On August 8, 2019, a Nairobi court took swift action, freezing Sh800 million suspected to be allocated toward the construction of the Arror and Kimwarer dams in Elgeyo-Marakwet County.
The court allowed for the money to be frozen for 180 days to facilitate investigations.
The funds, banked at the Standard Chartered Bank, belong to Stanlib Wealth Amanah Property Limited.
According to court documents, the account owners made an application to Standard Chartered Bank on July 24 to transfer the money to Azepco General Trading Company Limited in Dubai.
It is suspected that the Dubai firm is linked to the multi-billion shillings dams scandal.
Investigating officer Isaac Ogutu, attached to the DCI headquarters, had earlier been given seven days to conduct investigations, which expired on August 8.
Ogutu requested the court to allow him six months to conclude the investigations, a request granted by Senior Resident Magistrate Caroline Nzibe.
As of now, the owners of the mentioned company have not been arrested or charged in a court of law.
