As the 2019/2020 football season kicks off, Gor Mahia is gearing up for a fresh start with the appointment of Steven Polack as their new head coach. The 58-year-old English-Finnish coach, who has been offered a two-year contract, was unveiled alongside assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo and 17 new signings.
Polack's return to Gor Mahia is not his first attempt; he previously applied for the job in 2018 following Dylan Kerr's departure in December. Now, he faces his first mission as head coach: guiding Gor Mahia in their CAF Champions League first-round away tie against Burundi's Aigle Noir CS on Sunday.
The team is expected to leave for Bujumbura on Saturday morning, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Gor Mahia. Polack's task is to lead the team to success, and the new signings will play a crucial role in achieving this goal.
Here are the 17 new signings:
- Goalkeepers: David Mapigano, Caleb Omondi
- Defenders: Elvis Ronack, Maurice Ojwang, Abdala Shira, Alphonse Omija, Richdonald Bolo
- Midfielders: Geoffrey Omondi, Tobias Otieno, Curtis Wekesa, Lloyd Khavuchi
- Strikers: Gnamien Yikpei, Francis Afriyie, Dickson Ambundo, Sam Osoo, Kennedy Otieno, Dennis Oalo
On the other hand, the team has bid farewell to several players, including Shaban Odhoji, Castro Ogendo, Erisa Ssekisambu, Pascal Ogweno, Cercidy Okeyo, Francis Kahata, George Odhiambo, Hashim Sempala, Francis Mustafa, and Jacques Tuyisenge.
