Comedienne Anne Kansiime has spoken out about her painful experience of paying her own bride price in a previous marriage. In a candid conversation on her YouTube Channel, Kansiime revealed that she ended up paying her dowry to make it easier for her ex-husband, Gerald Ojok, to marry her.
According to Kansiime, she was blinded by love and wanted to make her husband happy. However, she later realized that paying her own bride price was a mistake, as it was not a traditional practice in their culture.
‘I accused someone of marrying me long enough for the whole world to believe it and him to believe it and I also believed it. Later when I realized that when you are married, it is when a man wakes up on his two feet, pays your bride price, takes you to church and then marries you; none of that had happened,’ she said.
Kansiime's comments come after a bitter internet exchange with her ex-husband, Gerald Ojok, shortly after their breakup. The couple's split was reportedly due to financial issues and pressure from Ojok's family to have children.
However, Kansiime has since moved on and is now an empowered woman. She is using her platform to warn others about the dangers of paying their own bride price and to encourage women to stand up for their rights.
