September 30th, 2017, will forever be etched in the memories of the people of Piny Owacho village in Uriri sub-county, Migori County, as the day a man took his own life in a desperate bid to escape the pain of being deserted by his second wife.
Eric Odii, a man who had thought he had found love and companionship in his second wife, was left heartbroken after she left him following a domestic disagreement on Friday evening.
According to Landi Oganyo, the deceased's brother, Eric was found in the second wife's house complaining of stomachache. When prodded to narrate what had happened, he opened up and admitted to having drunk poison.
Area assistant chief Juliet Atieno revealed that the first wife found the cup used by Eric to drink the poisonous substance. The body was taken to Rapcom hospital mortuary as the police launched further investigations.
As the community grapples with the tragic loss of a young life, it is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic disputes and the importance of seeking help when needed.
