On April 2018, a Kenyan court delivered a guilty verdict against two Kenyan rugby players, Frank Wanyama and Alex Olaba, who were accused of gang raping a young singer, Wendy Kemunto. The judgement was made in camera, not in public as many had anticipated.
According to reports, the incident occurred on February 10th, 2018, when Wendy Kemunto, a budding singer, was allegedly raped repeatedly by the two rugby players at one of their homes. The singer had initially kept the incident private, revealing it publicly in 2018, stating that she regretted not reporting the matter to the police earlier, as she was pregnant at the time.
Wendy Kemunto had accused the two rugby players of taking advantage of her and engaging in a forced threesome, which resulted in an unplanned pregnancy. In her statement to the police, she claimed that she was helpless and unable to fight off the two men, who were stronger and more physically capable due to their rugby training.
Frank Wanyama and Alex Olaba had initially denied the allegations, stating that the act was consensual and that Wendy Kemunto was trying to blackmail them. However, DNA samples were extracted from the two players for further investigation, which ultimately led to their guilty verdict.
