Kenya's Largest Delegation to US Conference Exposed ¶
Kenyan taxpayers have been left fuming after a list of 85 legislators who attended a US conference at their expense was made public.
The list, which includes names of MPs, senators, ward representatives, and parliamentary staff, was provided by the organisers of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) in Nashville, Tennessee.
According to the list, the delegation was led by Speaker Justin Muturi and Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen.
Other notable figures on the list include Senate Minority Leader James Orengo, Clerk of the Senate Jeremiah Nyegenye, and Clerk of the National Assembly Nelson Ayewoh.
The conference, which took place in July 2019, was attended by the largest delegation from any country, with Kenya sending 85 legislators at a cost of millions of shillings to taxpayers.
Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga had previously expressed outrage over the trip, calling it a 'waste of public funds.'
The list has sparked widespread criticism, with many Kenyans calling for accountability and an end to such lavish spending.
