On August 9, 2019, a group of eight Gusii MPs from the Tanga Tanga team hosted by their parliamentary caucus chairman Joash Nyamoko of North Mugirango, visited Nyamira county to drum up support for William Ruto's presidential campaign.
The MPs, including Innocent Obiri, Bobasi, Shadrack Mose, Kitutu Masaba, Alfah Miruka, Bomachoge Chache, Mathias Robi, Kuria West, Ezekiel Machogu, Nyaribari Masaba, Oroo Oyioka, Bonchari, Vincent Kemosi, West Mugirango, and Kisii deputy governor Joash Maangi, claimed that Ruto is the best candidate to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta after his retirement.
The group, which also included 25 MCAs from Kisii and Nyamira, and their former colleagues led by their chairman Beautah Omanga, raised funds for the development of St John Obwari Catholic Parish while addressing the faithful.
They asked the Kisii community not to be cheated that Matiang'i could be the next president, citing his poor working relationship with other leaders and lack of political experience.
The MPs compared Matiang'i to a bull that cannot be milked, while likening Ruto to a cow that has a lot of milk to give if supported.
They also criticized leaders from Nyamira county who were supporting Matiang'i, terming them politically blind.
Maangi emphasized the need for the Gusii people to come together and have a common political voice, insisting that only elected leaders can show the people such direction.
