On August 9, 2019, Wendy Waeni's mother, Magdalene Syombua, broke her silence regarding her daughter's former manager, Joe Mwangi.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Syombua revealed that despite her daughter's global success, they had never received a single penny from Mwangi.

Wendy, a 14-year-old acrobat, was discovered by Mwangi in 2014 and he became her manager. However, Syombua claimed that Mwangi had been running Wendy's social media accounts and had been using her for free performances.

According to Syombua, Mwangi had told her that he was marketing Wendy to the world and that there was no money being made. However, Syombua had gathered courage and asked Mwangi if Wendy used to perform for free or not.

After several complaints from her daughter, Syombua was forced to get Wendy a new manager. Mwangi later addressed the issue on his Twitter account, denying the allegations and asking about the law that protects him.

However, Kenyans have been angered by the story and are calling upon the DCI to arrest and prosecute Joe Mwangi.
