On July 31, 2019, a former Member of Parliament, Clement Kungu Waibara, was allegedly assaulted by a Traffic police officer at the T-Mall roundabout in Nairobi.

Waibara, who was then the MP for Gatundu North, was driving with his wife, Winnie Wairimu, and two other passengers when they stopped at the roundabout.

According to Waibara, he got out of the car to ask a traffic officer for directions to Kenyatta National Hospital, but was instead slapped and pushed by one of the officers.

The assault left Waibara with injuries to his left eye and cheek, and he was later treated by his doctor, who advised him to file a formal complaint.

Police are currently investigating the incident.
