Published on August 9, 2019, the GSMA has secured a landmark £38m partnership with the UK's Department for International Development (DFID) to drive digital inclusion and innovation.
The partnership, part of the 'Inclusion, Innovation and Scale' initiative, will see the GSMA use the funding to support its Mobile for Development programme, which aims to reduce inequalities in the world through digital technology.
According to Mats Granryd, Director General of the GSMA, the partnership 'reinforces the joint power and potential of the private and public sectors working together' to deliver sustainable business and socio-economic impact for the underserved.
The GSMA's Mobile for Development programme has already impacted over 20 million lives across 39 countries since 2013, with over 70% of those benefiting being women.
The programme has also contributed to the achievement of all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a significant focus on SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).
