On August 9, 2019, Chelsea announced that midfielder Danny Drinkwater had joined Burnley on a five-month loan deal.
Drinkwater, a 29-year-old former Leicester City midfielder, becomes Burnley's fourth summer signing. He made only 23 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea since joining them in a £35million deal in August 2017.
According to a statement on Burnley's official website, Drinkwater successfully underwent a medical in Burnley on Thursday.
"Burnley Football Club is delighted to have completed the capture of Danny Drinkwater to add another Premier League winner to their squad,''
read the statement. "Drinkwater – a key player in Leicester City's epic 2016 title triumph – has joined the Clarets on loan from Chelsea in a deal running until 6 January."
Drinkwater expressed his eagerness to grab the fresh start afforded to him by Burnley, saying, "There's no better way of describing it and I am looking forward to cracking on. It feels good to be home and now I just want to concentrate on my football."
He added that he is looking forward to playing his best football when he is happy, and that he sees his move to Burnley as a positive one.
