On August 8, 2019, Everton announced the signing of Nigerian forward Alex Iwobi from Arsenal in a deal worth up to Sh5 billion (£40m).

Iwobi, who came through the ranks at Arsenal, played 149 times for the Gunners and scored 15 goals.

He is the seventh summer signing under manager Marco Silva, who has reshaped his squad with seven arrivals and nine permanent departures.

Everton had an initial bid of £30m turned down by Arsenal, but their improved offer was accepted, paving the way for Iwobi's transfer.

With the deal sheet submitted by the 5pm deadline, the transfer is expected to be completed without a problem by the extended cut-off time of 7pm.

Iwobi's departure from Arsenal comes as no surprise, given the increased competition in his position following the arrival of Nicolas Pepe from Lille this summer for a club record £72m.
