On Thursday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i linked the resurgence of criminal gangs in Nyeri County to political mobilization, warning that the government will not tolerate their return.
Speaking at the opening of Kagwathi Police Station in Tetu, Nyeri County, Matiang'i emphasized the need for security personnel to be vigilant, particularly in addressing radicalization and curbing the proliferation of illicit brew dens.
He called upon leaders in the area, including Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, to ensure that projects are completed efficiently and to completion.
Governor Kahiga backed the call to tighten security in the area, citing the loss of innocent lives due to insecurity.
At the event, Matiang'i was accompanied by Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, who also acknowledged the growing radicalization problem in the area.
"We will be firm in matters of security and tell those political leaders to allow us to carry out our security mandate," Matiang'i said.
