On August 7, 2019, The Nation published an exclusive report revealing that Kenya had sent 85 lawmakers and parliamentary staff to a legislative conference in the US, costing taxpayers millions of shillings.
The lawmakers, who included MPs, senators, ward representatives, and parliamentary staff, denied the report and demanded an apology, citing visa problems as the reason for the absence of two MPs.
However, The Nation learnt that the list of attendees was provided by the organisers of the conference, the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), in Nashville, Tennessee.
