On August 8, 2019, South America's football governing body, CONMEBOL, announced a two-month international ban for Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus.
The 22-year-old Manchester City striker was given his marching orders in the Copa America final against Peru, 20 minutes from time, for a second booking.
Jesus had been a key player in the match, scoring in the 3-1 victory and creating space for a cross that led to the opening goal.
However, his behavior after being given a second yellow card was deemed unacceptable, with Jesus protesting bitterly, making obscene hand gestures, and kicking a water bottle.
CONMEBOL fined Jesus Sh3.1 million ($30,000) and gave him seven days to appeal, while the Brazilian federation was hit with a $15,000 penalty for its players' behavior.
As a result, Jesus will miss two friendlies in the United States next month against Colombia and Peru, but will be available in March when World Cup 2022 qualifying begins.
