On August 8, 2019, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Allen Gichuhi clarified reports that Cliff Ombeta is not licensed to practice as a lawyer.

Contrary to claims made by a section of lawyers during a court session, Gichuhi stated that Ombeta has a valid practicing license.

Lawyers had earlier insisted that LSK had withdrawn Ombeta's practicing certificate, citing that he did not have enough points to qualify.

However, Gichuhi's statement contradicts the claims made by the lawyers, who stated that Ombeta was unqualified to appear in court.

Cliff Ombeta has been in the news for his high-profile cases, including the murder trial of Willy Kimani and the case against televangelist James Ng'ang'a.

On July 12, 2019, Ombeta was involved in a dramatic confrontation with the prosecution after they accused him of not being forthright about his reported illness.
