On August 8, 2019, a court delivered a guilty verdict to two Kenyan rugby players, Frank Wanyama and Alex Mahaga, who had been accused of gang rape.
The case dates back to April 2018, when the two players were charged with the crime.
According to the allegations, the players had repeatedly raped Kenyan singer Wendy Kemunto on her birthday, February 10th, 2018.
Wendy Kemunto shocked many in 2018 by revealing the harrowing ordeal, which sparked widespread condemnation.
Both Frank Wanyama and Alex Mahaga were members of the national rugby team and played for Kenyan Harlequins.
During the investigation, the players claimed that any sexual contact was consensual and accused Kemunto of blackmailing them.
However, DNA samples extracted from the players were used as evidence in the case.
The two players will be sentenced at a later date.
