Uasin Gishu County men's and women's volleyball teams are on a mission to make history by winning their third consecutive titles in the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (Kicosca) games, scheduled to take place from August 11 to 17, 2019.
Both teams have a strong track record, having emerged victorious in the 2017 and 2018 editions held in Machakos and Kisii Counties respectively. In 2017, the men's team beat Nakuru 3-1, while the ladies saw off Nairobi with a similar margin. Last year, the men's team dominated Nakuru in straight sets, while the ladies edged out their opponents 3-2.
According to Nicholas Bitok, the men's coach, his team has been training seriously for three weeks to ensure they do not leave anything to chance. "This year's edition is very important because the trophy must return to Eldoret. This is where it belongs," he said.
Ken Bitok, the ladies' coach, is equally confident about his team's chances. "The ladies are well prepared and are ready to take on any opposition. Our goal this year is to win our third title and bring the trophy back home," he said.
Meanwhile, preparations for the games have reached a fever pitch in Kericho County, where the games will be held. Governor Paul Chepkwony has assured that security has been beefed up and participants will enjoy the games. "We are ready to host the games and preparations are almost complete as we look forward to welcoming our visitors," he said.
