Mount Kenya University is gearing up for its 16th graduation ceremony, scheduled to take place on Friday, August 9, at the MKU Happy Valley Graduation Pavilion. According to the security committee, security arrangements are in place to ensure a smooth and secure event.
Thika West Assistant County Commissioner David Tegutura and Thika West Deputy Sub-County Commander Bernard Ayoo have assured attendees of their safety, urging them to partner with the police in case of any issues.
However, Tegutura warned that any breach of security will not be tolerated, and those who fail to follow the laid-down security arrangements risk being removed from the graduation pavilion and potentially arrested.
Journalists covering the event are required to be at their designated press gallery and carry their press tags and university accreditation. The use of drones is also prohibited, as they may cause confusion and anxiety.
Additionally, Tegutura advised graduands to ensure the safety of their relatives traveling for the ceremony, warning them to stay in groups and avoid isolated areas.
Mount Kenya University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stanley Waudo announced that a total of 6,666 graduands will be conferred with degrees, diplomas, and certificates in various fields. The graduands represent a diverse range of nationalities, including Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, and Uganda, where MKU has established campuses.
The graduation ceremony will be presided over by University Chancellor Prof. John Struthers, with University of London Educationist & Researcher Prof. Raymond Macharia serving as the Chief Guest and philanthropist Dr. David Charles Mulli delivering the keynote speech.
