On June 11, 2019, a dramatic incident unfolded at State House in Nairobi when a university student, Brian Kibet Bera, was shot and injured by presidential security detail.

Brian, a 5th-year engineering student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat), had jumped over the State House fence armed with a knife, shouting and threatening to kill "the big thief and his sympathizers".

According to sources, Brian's actions were a culmination of his long-standing grievances against President Kenyatta, whom he accused of stealing their ancestral land in multiple Facebook posts.

The police admitted Brian to Kenyatta Hospital, where he is awaiting a mental check-up.

As the investigation into the incident continues, questions remain about the motivations behind Brian's actions and the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
