On February 10, 2018, a musician was brutally gang-raped by two Kenya Harlequin rugby players at Seefa Apartments in Highrise, Nairobi. The incident occurred on her birthday, leaving her pregnant and traumatized.
According to the victim, one of her attackers had threatened to sue her if she went public with the matter, further silencing her.
After a lengthy trial, Olaba and Wanyama were found guilty of the heinous crime on Thursday. They will be sentenced on Friday.
Earlier in the case, Nairobi Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku issued a warrant for Mahaga's arrest in July after he skipped court for the second time, citing a traffic jam as an excuse.
Both Olaba and Wanyama had been released on Sh500,000 cash bail each, a reduced amount from Sh1 million, after their lawyer claimed they were unable to raise the higher amount due to their financial struggles as jobless university students.
