On Wednesday, a dramatic scene unfolded in Sylmar, Los Angeles, when a car crash left a vehicle overturned. Among the bystanders who rushed to the scene was 75-year-old actor Danny Trejo, best known for his roles in Machete and From Dusk 'Till Dawn.
According to Trejo, the accident occurred when a driver ran a red light and hit the car. Trejo, who was in the right place at the right time, quickly sprang into action to help those in need.
"The lady in the front seat was pinned, and she kept screaming 'my baby, my baby'," Trejo told ABC7 in an interview. "So I went to the back seat and me and some guy that was there pulled open the back door, because it was stuck."
Trejo's Heroic Efforts ¶
As Trejo approached the car, he noticed that a young child was trapped inside. The child, who had special needs, was panicked and in distress. Trejo, who has experience working with special needs children, knew exactly what to do.
"I kept facing him away from the accident and just talking to him," Trejo said. "He was panicked. I said OK we have to use our superpowers. So he screamed 'superpowers' and we started yelling 'superpowers.' I said do this, with the muscles. He said 'muscles.'"
Reunited and Uninjured ¶
Thanks to Trejo's quick thinking and bravery, the child was safely extracted from the wreck. The female driver, the child's grandmother, was also extracted from the car and reunited with her grandson. Miraculously, both were uninjured in the accident.
"Everything good that has happened to me, has happened as a direct result of helping someone else," Trejo said. "Everything. And that's the way I live."
