On August 8, 2019, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) made a significant move by withdrawing the practicing certificate of city lawyer Cliff Ombeta.

According to LSK, Ombeta does not have enough points to practice as a lawyer, making him unqualified to appear in court.

This decision comes just two weeks after the High Court in Nairobi ordered Ombeta to find another advocate to represent three accused persons in the Willy Kimani murder case, after he failed to appear in court.

On July 12, 2019, Ombeta had a dramatic exchange with the prosecution in court, where he wore a hat and black sweatpants, claiming he was unwell and had been advised to rest for four days.

Ombeta has been involved in several high-profile cases, including the murder trial of televangelist Apostle James Ng'ang'a and the case against drug barons the Akasha brothers.
