Published on August 8, 2019, ODM's executive director, Oduor Ong'wen, assured interested politicians of a fair candidate selection process for the Kibra Constituency by-election.
Speaking at the second Kisumu County ODM Delegates Convention, Mr Ong'wen urged members to be patient as the party prepares for the poll.
He noted that the next step is for National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi to declare the seat vacant, after which the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will roll out a programme for different parties to field candidates.
Mr Ong'wen explained that the IEBC declaration is what will prompt the party to invite applicants, adding that at the moment, they do not know if there is anybody who has declared interest.
He stated that the party will consider the four methods of selecting a candidate, including the electoral college, consensus, competitive primaries, and a direct ticket, in order to pick the strongest one.
Mr Ong'wen said the party will settle for one of these methods after consulting widely with ODM's leaders in Kibra and opinion leaders.
