On August 8, 2019, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) exposed Cliff Ombeta's sham practice, revealing that his license to practice law had been revoked.
According to LSK, Ombeta's certificate had been withdrawn, making him ineligible to represent clients in Kenya's courts. This revelation came to light during the Willie Kimani murder trial, where Ombeta was representing the accused persons.
LSK's lawyer, Stephen Ongaro, informed Justice Jessie Lessit that they had been closely monitoring Ombeta's activities and had discovered that his license was no longer valid. Ongaro stated that Ombeta did not have enough LSK legal points to represent any client in court.
Despite his revoked license, Ombeta had taken on the Willie Kimani murder case, which has been ongoing for months due to his frequent absences in court. In July 2019, Ombeta failed to appear in court, citing illness as the reason for his absence.
Sam Nyaber, Ombeta's lawyer, claimed that Ombeta was recovering from his illness, but the LSK's revelation has cast doubt on Ombeta's ability to practice law.
