On August 8, 2019, Hillary Barchok was sworn in as the third Governor of Bomet County, marking a significant milestone in the county's history.
Deputy President William Ruto was among the leaders who attended the event at Bomet Green Stadium, where Kericho High Court Judge George Dullu presided over the swearing-in ceremony.
Notably, Barchok becomes the third governor of Bomet County, following the late Dr. Joyce Laboso and Isaac Ruto.
During Dr. Laboso's burial on Saturday at Fort Ternan in Kisumu, Barchok had promised to take the county to greater heights in honour of his fallen boss.
He reiterated this commitment during his swearing-in ceremony, stating, “We will honour her by completing all projects she started. This government will remain Dr Laboso’s government until the five-year term is over,”
Interestingly, Barchok revealed that he never lobbied to be appointed as Dr. Laboso's deputy but was picked by the governor while on a trip to London.
He expressed his gratitude, saying, “I was a little known man but she reached out to me. I will not let her down,”
