Michael Olunga sues Menengai Oil Refineries Limited over image rights ¶

Kenyan professional footballer Michael Olunga has sued Menengai Oil Refineries Limited for allegedly using his image without permission.
Olunga, who plays for Kashiwa Reysol in Japan's J1 League, is also a key player for the Kenya national team, Harambee Stars.
According to a court document, Olunga and Harambee Stars teammate Victor Wanyama are seeking compensation for the unauthorized use of their images.
The images in question were used by Menengai Oil Refineries Limited on Twitter during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, where Harambee Stars won a match.
Menengai Oil Refineries Limited had captioned the images with the phrase 'You can believe it.'
However, Wanyama has denied that the images were used to congratulate Harambee Stars on their win, but rather to promote the company's products.
Wanyama also claimed that the images were used without his consent, which he says is a breach of his dignity.
The case is set to be heard in the Milimani Law Courts on August 7, 2019.
